Cass MBA student awarded prize in contribution to understanding of financial management and markets
Congratulations go to Dr Nasir Hussain, MBA alumnus and Head of Formulation at Glide Pharma, who was recently awarded the prestigious Lombard Prize for his dissertation, 'Using Financial Portfolio Theory and Monte Carlo Simulation to Assess Risk & Return of in-Licensed Pharmaceutical Drug Portfolios.'
The Worshipful Company of International Bankers Lombard Prize is awarded for top finance projects, chosen for their contribution to understanding the operational effectiveness of financial management and markets, for being of value to their client, and for using well structured and evidence based arguments.
Nasir Hussain said: "It’s a delight to have won this prize because as an industrial pharmacist with a non-finance background, it’s an achievement to have the validation of one’s work by finance practitioners in the city. In the dissertation I used the novel twist of applying Markowitzian Financial Portfolio Theory, typically used for stocks and shares, to licensing deals that large pharma signs with smaller biotechs to maintain their ever-receding drug pipelines."
The Lombard Association, founded in the 1960’s, had an arrangement with Cass Business School whereby an annual prize was given to a student for the best work on a paper concerning the financial services industry. The Association decided to continue this academic prize under the name of “The Worshipful Company of International Bankers Lombard Prize” and has allocated a sum of money annually for the winner of the competition.
The prize was awarded on Monday 14th July at Merrill Lynch, London.
