As 2011 comes to a close, we realize just how challenging life can be. Challenges present opportunities and opportunities are seized by people with the right skills. New York Institute of Finance is here to help you obtain those skills.
In 2012, we will celebrate 90 years of training global finance professionals to learn and to lead. With humble beginnings in 1922 as the “Stock Exchange Institute”, the New York Stock Exchange organized the Institute for the purpose of training their employees. The earliest records we have come from a book called Stock Exchange Procedures by Birl E. Shultz who was the Dean of the New York Stock Exchange Institute. The introduction to the book by Charles Gay, NYSE President in 1921, simply states the reasons for having a financial training institute. He said, “Through the Institute, any young man or woman may, while working, obtain an education in finance and allied subjects”. The first class of 300 graduated in 1929, the year of the Crash. Later on, courses were offered to anyone working in the financial services industry. Somewhere around 1942, the name was changed to New York Institute of Finance. Some of you may not know this, but NYIF was located for many years in the World Trade Center. We now share the building at 1330 Avenue of the Americas with our sister company, the Financial Times.
Over the years our product offerings, extensive global locations, and methods of delivery, have vastly expanded. In addition to our New York locations, we offer public open enrollment classes in Chicago, St. Petersburg/Tampa, Stamford, Toronto, London, Beijing and Shanghai. However, we can deliver any class through our new virtual platform, using the Pearson (our parent) virtual classroom. So, if you are sitting at your desk in Dubai or at home in Texas, you can log onto a live class with just a computer and a set of headphones. You will be interacting live with your instructor and other students! Soon to come in early 2012 will be our mobile apps!
NYIF is proud of its distinguished history but, as we move into our 10th decade of learning, we are conscious of looking to the future. Learning, in all its formats, continues to evolve. We intend to embrace those changes to benefit those professionals looking to us to help them in their continuing professional education.
