Dominic Connor's 2008 Guide, still has a lot of valuable information and insights:
Introduction to the 2nd Edition
Since I wrote the first edition, things have got worse. Lehman has died, big Wall Street names are now slaves to retail banks, and apparently we are headed for a depression, followed by alien invasion and a plague of frogs. That is why this version calls these "interesting times", as in the ancient Chinese curse "may you live in interesting times".
The market, Congress, plagues, the German government 'guaranteeing' then not 'guaranteeing' deposits, books by Justin London, etc, are all things outside my control, but what is clear to me that all is not lost, and that the outcome for each of us is yet to be determined, and regardless of the more hysterical headlines, we have to deal with it.
So the things we describe in our main Career Guide are still true, but at this time there are some points I’d like to make that apply to the current situation. Rather than make you deal with >150 pages to find the information you might well need now, we’re sending you this supplement.
The market is now more brutal, and if your motivation has been hurt by the way things are, one thing I will share having seen previous downturns is that the people who do best are those still standing when the trouble passes.
This paper is aimed both at people who are looking for their first job, and those who have just lost their job.
