After eleven successful conferences (Capri 2004, Shanghai 2006, Anchorage 2008, Prague 2009, Florence 2010, Sydney 2011, Minneapolis 2012, Dubrovnik 2013, Quebec City 2014, Reykjavik, 2015, Lisbon 2016), the Financial Intermediation Research Society (FIRS) is pleased to announce that the next conference will be held in Kowloon, Hong Kong on June 5-7, 2017.

Keynote speaker: Robert Townsend, MIT.

You are kindly invited to submit papers to be considered for presentation at the 2017 FIRS Conference. As in past years, the conference will cover a broad range of topics. Both theoretical and empirical papers in all areas of finance are welcome. It is anticipated that most participants will be from universities, central banks, regulatory agencies and international financial organizations.

The submission deadline is November 1, 2016, and the submission fee is $50. You may submit your paper by clicking on the heading SUBMISSIONS. Authors will be notified of the Program Committee’s decision by late January/early February 2017.

The conference will begin around mid-day on June 5 and will continue for the full day on June 6 and June 7. The venue will be the Intercontinental Hotel, Kowloon, Hong Kong (https://hongkong-ic.intercontinental.com/) which is located in the downtown area close to museums and many attractions. Hong Kong is a premieer city in Asia, where ancient traditions blend with a lively and modern atmosphere. In addition, Hong Kong is centrally positioned in Asia and allows excursions to several neigboring locations..

The 2017 FIRS Conference will hold its first session for PhD students planning to go on the job market during the 2017/18 Academic year. Each paper will be discussed by a seasoned researcher in a session open to all FIRS participants.

Student nominees must submit a solo-authored draft of their job-market paper, along with an advisor’s letter of recommendation. Papers will be accepted based on both the letter and the quality of the paper. All fields in finance will be considered. Submissions can be made at https://firsociety.wufoo.com/forms/firs-2017-phd-paper-submission/.

Conference fees will be waived for students whose papers are accepted for the special PhD student session, and FIRS will reimburse these students up to $1,000 to cover travel and hotel expenses.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: April 1, 2017. Decisions will be made by April 15, 2017.
